PNW Isn't So Bad, Right?

HI All,

So a few weeks ago Nanci and I flew to Juneau Alaska for a retire-ment party. Nancie's sister got to retire this year after working for over 30 year's with the state of Alaska. I bring this up because whenever we talk to her on the phone or when she comes to town to visit, we always ask about the weather and stuff. Mostly she tells us it is pretty much the same as down here. Well I gotta tell you that it is not the same or close to the same as here in Oregon. There was about two feet of snow on the ground. And where that was gone, sidewalks and such, it was icy. Oh, it was in the high 30’s low 40’s and raining when we got there, but did I mention 2 feet of snow on the ground.

I bring this up because when packing I was very tempted to try to get my metal detector up there with me. I figured we would have some slack time with family and I could get out and do a little history hunting or something. In the end I did not take it and it would have just been dead weight if I had.

We some-times forget just how cool it is to live in Oregon or the pacific north-west for that matter. Where we live we can actually get out, dressed accordingly of course, and enjoy our sport all year long. I have a friend through Steve and Rita that is, that lives in Hawaii. This guy love’s to prospect for gold. I mean he lives' for it, but guess what? There is no gold in Hawaii unless it gets dropped on the beach from a tourist. Anyway he plans his 4 to 8 week vacation here in the pacific northwest just to prospect for gold. After he finishes up for the season and gets back home to Hawaii he starts planning for the next year outing.

I for one am very glad to live here in the northwest, I do like to visit and travel to other places but always glad to make it back home !!

So until next time, Keep digging, Enjoy the hunt, and Fill in your holes.

Nick
